About The Site:

This site was created at the request of friends in order to see what I've been up to, and recount my tales of daring do and bumbling shenanigans. This is a blog covering over 20 years of travel around Adventure, Martial Arts, and the true stories of the situations I get into all over the world pursuing challenges:
Nash-Style!

I've traveled the world for training and in search of martial arts masters to learn their secrets and look for treasure, and while mishaps usually happen, I strive to constantly learn and improve along the way.

Moderation leads to mediocrity,
Anything worth doing, is worth doing to the MAX!

Freedom and Adventure!

    Nash : Adventurer, Martial Artist

All without owning a phone:

My martial arts background consists of about 30 years of training with black belts in Kudo Daido-juku, Kyokushin Karate, Okinawan ShuriGoju Karate, and "American Karate".  I've also been practicing Brazillian Jujutsu for over 13 years, and I practice some Chinese arts like Baji Quan.  I've also dabbled in Judo and Muay Thai as well as more obscure arts, and have competed in MMA and bareknuckle kickboxing.  I lived in Japan and speak Japanese, have a Bachelor's of Science in Kinesiology focusing on athletic training and injury rehab, and have trained with many masters all over the world.  I coach and teach these arts as well as being a certified personal trainer.

As far as proper adventuring goes, I've finished several long term survival schools like SOLO, Sigma3, NOLS, and others.  I finished top of my group of the prestigious NOLS Australia (National Outdoor Leadership School) “The Harvard of wilderness education”, where I rucked across the most dangerous part of the outback for a couple months before leading my own expeditions.  I currently hold a wilderness first responder and emergency medical responder. I also teach for my local CERT (Community Emergency Response Team), and have consulted and taught at other groups such as "READY:TOWN".

I've summited Kilimanjaro.  I summited Denali, which many say is more physically grueling than Everest, and solo summited Aconcagua, the highest mountain outside the Himalayan range.

I walked 850 miles barefoot in 31 days as a monk in Japan on the 88 temple pilgrimage, and climbed Mt. Fuji barefoot from several towns over.  For ascetic training I have climbed many mountains barefoot, including:
  • Mount Fuji (in it's entirety!) -Japan
  • Blue Mountain - Jamaica
  • Picket Post Mountain - Arizona
  • BaiYunShan - China
  • Jebel El- Kelaa - Morocco
  • Daruma Buddha Mountain - Shaolin, China
  • Krimmler Falls - Austria
  • Bukit Timah-Singapore
  • Unknown - Kodiak, Alaska
  • Ben Nevis (wearing flip-flops) - Scotland
...and more...

I've backpacked around Asia, South America, Europe, .... I've fumbled around 6 of the 7 continents.

I've done a bunch of other stuff too, you can read about them here on the "Chronicles of Nash" if that seems like your thing.

So, if none of that sounds like your cup of tea, or you rightfully find me off putting, good luck on your quest for something.  There is a functionally infinite amount of content, growing all the time.

BUT, if you DO like this stuff and like the cut of my jib, welcome!

Enjoy.  OSU!

If you are just famished for more NASH, sometimes you can catch me other places. My
writings have been featured on such websites as "goabroad.com", I make the occasional appearance on podcasts, and I get interviewed every now and again like this one from "READY:TOWN".
