Chance encounter: Friend From Thailand

The year is 20.X.1….

One day while walking around the university I happened to run into someone. ‘Queen?’ I asked expecting it not to be her. “Oh my god, Nash!? What are you doing here!?” It was her.

Queen was a girl I had met in Thailand, who worked for the organization I was with when I was there. She explained that the organization had sent her to the States to do a tour of American universities to try and recruit people to do what I had done. She was only to be at the university that day… and I had run into her. She had no idea I was at the university, let alone that state. I also believe she had never been to the U.S. A. Before. I managed to run into her on a day, time, and place I normally wouldn’t be! A complex series of event just happened to have led me there then. What are the odds!?

We decided to have dinner together. She brought a friend and a student who went to Thailand after I did. I brought a friend of mine who had just broken up with his girlfriend and so needed some excitement. The dinner was a typical Nash affair. Queen and I reminisced about me being in Thailand. I asked the student she brought if he had done similar things to me in Thailand. “No, I’m a good student.” What!? I’m a good student… of life. Queen interjected “Nash, you and your group where the most rum soaked debocherous people I’ve ever worked with. You gave me high blood pressure! “ That doesn’t sound like me… you’ve got me mixed up with someone else. “Oh yeah? What about when you vanished at the elephant park!? Or when the bungee jump van caught fire? Or the rum? Or Patrick and…” I get it. Let’s not give people the wrong impression…

We finished our meals and headed outside where there where two large novelty bulls. We snuck up onto them and took pictures. Queens friends offered me a place to stay in New Zealand, and then Queen offered me a job with the organization, should I want it.

Hmm…. A job with the organization? Doing what I love? Sounds all right, but to quote Aristotle : “All paid jobs absorb and degrade the mind.” Nice to have options though.
