Test breaking, Tameshiwari, is not just a test. Breaking has been used to impress people in order to attract students, wow people of power for prestigious positions, scare enemies and most importantly, make sure the tool works as intended. Some of these tests are fairly self explanatory and you see them often: People breaking bricks, ice, even fruit, and of course coconuts. However, some of these tests are difficult for people to grasp the purpose of. So, I thought I would go through some of the more esoteric breaking techniques and explain the what and why. This time we'll look at:
