To score some money for my summer Shugyo, I worked another NAGA BJJ tournament this past weekend in Chicago. Things went about how they always do: The ride my gym mate and I were supposed to have bailed at the last second. I had to drive since the other guy had his license suspended. His car wasn't in great shape, missing a side view mirror, a window that kept falling down on it's own, and so on. We had a run-in with some cops on the way up when they ran his plates expecting him to be the one driving. They questioned the validity of my license but let us off with warnings... warnings for nothing. The hotel that was supposed to be booked for us wasn't showing up on the hotel staff's end leading to some tension at check in, but we eventually got in. Loading the truck took an extra long time because the hydrolic lift blew a fuse, and an uncharacteristic cold snap and hard rain blew in. We left a day early since the guy who was supposed to give us a ride was supposed to also get us into "New Japan Pro Wrestling" but since that fell through we had no reason to stay. On the way back the hard rain forced almost zero visibilty which slowed us way down, but we made it. At least I got paid.
