Site Update: Added a blog about Alaska, featuring 17 year old Nash!
Personal Update: I received an invite to try out for the U.S.A. national Kudo team for the World Tournament in Tokyo this November. The gathering was 2 weeks ago and consisted of a very full day of training in Ohio, that was also a rank test, and the first USA Kudo tournament, which I fought in. It was great to see Azuma Jukucho and the rest of the Kudo crew again. I had a great experience, and though I got lots of invites from the instructors for various things (like being Uchi-Deshi at the Honbu for awhile)and many compliments, I had a realization: Kudo head gear is not for my large lumpy head. It cut off all tubes leading into and out of my head!: breath and blood. My jaw doesn't go where the helmet wants it to go; I got lockjaw for days, and all the skin rubbed off of my chin from forcing it into the thing. In three fights I scored a loss by decision, a landslide victory, and somehow got my left eyebrow deeply cut (I had a giant helmet on!?) which ended the fight for me. I love Kudo as a martial art, but pursuing it as a serious competitive activity with a helmet is way not for me. All the best to those that engage though! :)
